Most of the people I know work hard to lower the levels(standards) at work.
That was my strategy at sports and maths in high school. I would do only the minimum amount required and I worked hard to try a little bit lower each time. By the time the class year was over, the teacher was relieved if I was even absent once in a while. My classmates would joke that she was always in good spirits when I was away.
Some people meet the required standards. They figure out what's expected of them and do just that.
A few people I know, and mind you, only a very few, work beyond the limits and use ideas to raise standards. They are the ones who over-deliver on projects... they show up ahead of the schedule or time... they enquire, research, suggest and push.
Raising standards is exhausting. I do know that now.
And I am sure that the people who have dived into this amazing style of behavior would never do things any other way. They get to experience a totally different feeling, a journey full of life and spirit and a dazzling name than all else.
Why should some people raise standards and levels?
What has changed that makes work gymnastics required? Is it the selfish effort by leaders in your company to get more work out of all?
I believe that the success of my organisation is never about having the fastest work force.
It is more the result of my creatine people who will be able to take a great leap forward with belief and delight.
The person capable of doing that sort of work will always be in higher demand than ever before wherever they go... whether in the offices they work in or in their families and homes.
